CharlestonHumane Society of Charlotte
Charleston is the definition of a survivor. Charleston's original home was in St. Croix. Unfortunately, during a hurricane many animals on the island were displaced, and Charleston was one of them. The ASPCA agreed to transport Charleston to safety and then to us at the Humane Society of Charlotte. Once Charleston settled in, we noticed he had some masses that looked suspicious, so our medical team removed them and continued to monitor him. Charleston's masses proved to be a type of tumor that can be caused by sun exposure, so we recommend he doesn't spend prolonged time in the sun. Not to worry, our boy is recovering well and is ready to find his forever home! Enough about his past, let's talk about what we've seen since Charleston has been in our care. Charleston has quickly won the hearts of the staff and dog walking volunteers. At almost 4 years old, Charleston has a lot of expendable energy and would do best with an active adopter who wants to keep him exercised and his mind stimulated. We also have noticed Charleston is pretty under-socialized with other dogs, so at this time we feel he would do best as the only dog in the home. Charleston is still working on his basic obedience and learning how to properly walk on a leash. Our behavior team has fitted him for an easy-walk harness and we feel that has helped him improve. Charleston has previously lived with children as young as three years old, but we think he'd do best with adults or older children who are dog savvy and experienced with strong dogs. Charleston absolutely loves people, but he is learning when the appropriate time to express excitement is, and when it's appropriate to remain calm. Charleston would make a great companion for someone who wants an affectionate dog, and with someone who's willing to continue training. Charleston knows the command "sit" and is very treat motivated, which really helps when it comes to training. Come ask to meet Charleston today and our staff will show you all the reasons we've fallen in love with him!
