Humane Education Shelter Tours

“Shelley was the perfect match for our virtual visit with the Humane Society! She engaged our students in learning about social cues of dogs that can help us interpret how they are feeling, helping the students develop a greater sense of empathy. She also did a masterful job tying in our novel that we had just completed, Because of Winn Dixie, with the theme of empathy. It was just the right balance of learning, connecting, and sharing!”

~Amy Ballaban, 4th Grade Teacher at Charlotte Latin

In 2019, the Humane Society of Charlotte took in almost 3,000 animals! That is an average of almost 10 animals a day! Is your class or scout troop interested in learning about how this magic happens? Consider scheduling a shelter tour by completing the required fields below. Our Humane Education Manager, Shelley Lyttle, leads each tour; join her on a behind-the-scenes look at our animal shelter. The maximum number of scouts/students is 12 children per tour and a minimum of 2 adult chaperones present is required.

Tours are $5 per child or free admission with a bag of dry dog or cat food.

We also have Pet Pals Patches available for purchase for scout troops for $3 each.
