Start Here
- Search your home, yard, neighborhood, and nearby hiding places.
- Check and report your missing pet through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control.
- Contact your pet’s microchip company and make sure your contact information is current.
- Post your pet on PawBoost, Petco Love Lost, Nextdoor, and local lost pet groups.

I’ve Found a Pet
Found a dog or cat in Charlotte or Mecklenburg County? You can play an important role in helping them get back home.
Start here:
- Check for a collar and identification.
- Have the pet scanned for a microchip. HSC and many local veterinary clinics can scan found pets, or you can call 311 for assistance.
- File a Found Pet Report with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control.
- Post the pet on PawBoost, Petco Love Lost, Nextdoor, and local neighborhood groups.
If you can safely keep the pet temporarily, continue searching for their family while following Animal Care & Control’s found pet guidance.
If you cannot safely keep the pet, contact Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control by calling 311 for next steps.
Can I Bring a Stray Pet to HSC?
HSC can help scan a found dog or cat for a microchip, but we do not accept lost or stray animals for shelter intake.
