How is the Humane Society of Charlotte handling hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic?

HSC is considered an essential business in Mecklenburg county. We have been on-site, continuing to serve the community throughout the crisis to ensure that the people and animals in the Charlotte area get the services they need. We are continuing to keep the health and safety of our staff, clientele, and animals as the highest priority. These precautions and safety measures also extend to our applicants.

We have developed and implemented strict safety protocols for both visitors and staff at our shelter and clinic locations to ensure every measure is taken to protect their health and well being. Interviews are being conducted virtually when possible. Should you be asked for an on-site visit or working interview, you will be prepped on the expectations for how to protect yourself and those around you at our locations. We appreciate that this is an uncertain time for many, so please feel free to reach out to HR at any time throughout the process with questions or concerns related to COVID-19 and the steps HSC is taking for applicants.

How do I apply for a position at the Humane Society of Charlotte?

Applying with HSC is easy. Simply navigate to our Open Positions page and follow the instructions listed for the role you’d like to apply for. Some may ask that you submit your resume and cover letter, others that you complete an initial pre-employment assessment along with your documentation. For any role, though, you’ll want to make sure your resume is up-to-date with the most relevant information for the position you’re interested in.

Do I have to include a cover letter?

While we ask for a cover letter with each position, it is not technically required to be considered. However, we strongly suggest you include one expressing your specific interest in working with us. It is extremely helpful to our hiring managers as another way to get to know you apart from your resume.

I’m a current/former volunteer. Should I include that in my application?

Yes!! We are always thrilled to have HSC volunteers who are interested in becoming staff members.

Can I apply for multiple positions?

Yes, you may apply for multiple positions. However, we encourage you to narrow your choices to jobs that truly match your skill set, experience, and interests.

When will I hear from someone?

Hiring times vary depending on many factors, including the number of applications received and the day-to-day needs of the business that the hiring manager must also be attending. We know you are excited about your application and will try to get in touch with you should we feel you’d be a great fit within ten days of applying.

I’ve applied before but was turned down. Can I apply again?

Yes, you may re-apply to any open position. Be sure to include any additional experience or skills you’ve gained since you last applied.

Does the Humane Society of Charlotte have internship opportunities available?

Yes! We currently partner with UNCC, Queens University, and CPCC to offer our internship opportunities during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Please check the student job boards associated with your educational institution for the most current roles available.
