Humane Society of Charlotte Celebrates 2000 Adoptions in 2021

We're celebrating 2000 completed adoptions in 2021 as of last Friday, August 13.  Since the beginning of 2021, the HSC team has worked tirelessly to find new families for the animals at our shelter during a year when shelters across the country are maxing out their capacity for care.

Each year our organization averages just over 2,900 adoptions and in December 2020, we were short just one adoption from an all-time high of 3,000 annual adoptions. In 2021, we're ready to make that goal a reality and are on track to do so.

What is HSC's Adoption Philosophy?

HSC is an open-adoption organization seeking to make potential adopters feel comfortable and welcome during the adoption process rather than screened or judged.

Our open adoption policy removes barriers, helping more families become loving pet owners and ultimately, saving more lives.

At HSC, our trained counselors focus on matching potential adopters' lifestyles and expectations to that of the needs of animals at the facility. Finding the right fit for both the family and the dog or cat is what creates a successful adoption and a life-long bond between a pet and the people that love them.

How Does the HSC Adoption Process Work?

Adoptions are done by appointment to ensure the best possible experience and the undivided attention of the HSC staff. All appointments are based on a first-come, first-served system.

Interested adopters can visit humanecharlotte.org and request an adoption appointment for the animal they're interested in meeting. Adopters can select their own adoption appointment time through HSC's smart scheduler. All adoptable animals are listed on the HSC website, which is updated in real-time.

When adopters arrive at HSC, they should come prepared to take their new pet home that day with an appropriate collar & leash or carrier. Visitors need a valid form of photo identification and payment. Adopters must be 18 or older.

The Humane Society of Charlotte is excited to complete the new HSC Animal Resource Center, anticipated to open in the Spring of 2022, where the organization hopes to increase goals for adoptions and find loving homes for more animals than ever before.
